District levy just one of many upcoming fees
Concerning the upcoming school levy; with the large voting block of district employees, spouses and other voting-age family members, passage of the March 12 levy by a margin of roughly 60-40 percent is a foregone conclusion as usual. But, since school and levy funding doesn’t exist in a vacuum as many seem to imply, here are some other expenses the rest of us will also be dealing with.
Extracurricular activities is one destination of levy money. But you will still also be paying to attend school sporting events as I understand from a friend with a daughter in middle school.
Our one-party state government will likely be shifting the burden of its $148 million big business property tax elimination to us.
Our county commissioners are making noises that a 7-percent property tax increase is on the horizon.
Most Sandpoint residents currently pay at least $90 a month for city utilities, which will continue to go up.
And, as of this fall, your Avista power bill will go up another 1.9 percent. Of course, we can all save enough money for the levy by not buying one latte each month.
Happy tax and fee paying all you red staters.
