Who will the levy truly impact?

| March 5, 2013 6:00 AM

Many believe that the property owners in Bonner County are the evil rich whose ill-gotten gains must be shared with the less fortunate and poor school district and its employees. Few seem to realize that the property people own is often the fruit of a lifetime of labor. A portal of security for retirees and or a struggling family.

Many who do not own property in our school district may feel immunized from higher property taxes without realizing that property owners will be forced to increase rents rather than face losses. Levies impact us all. They enrich a few at the expense of the many with little gain to the masses.

It’s just too bad that when a family budgets for the purchase of a home, they are not able to include the schools ever-increasing appetite for their hard-earned cash.
