Schools have become a lucrative business

| March 7, 2013 6:00 AM

Having been raised in Bonner County, much has been observed over the past 60-plus years. It is appalling that the school system has become such a lucrative business for many.

Considering the area’s average wage and what those individuals endure to accomplish a reasonable standard of living, I find what is now the norm for those involved in education to be rather over the top. Considering that, by their own words, 85 percent of the budget goes to salaries for administrators, teacher and administrative expenses, I find it ludicrous to hear the pleas for the “poor” students.

This is not a time for emotionalism, but an astute look at what we’re getting for the money. Considering the 2011-12 school year had a stable enrollment after a four-year decrease of 12.5 percent and a projected decline of 3.87 percent this year, it seems rather ludicrous to request that amount of a school bond levy.

It seems they see the public as seen as a never-ending pocket to be pilfered with no concept of real cutting back.

The choice is yours.
