'Winner takes all' formula must stop

| March 19, 2013 7:00 AM

The GOP is in a snit over the back-to-back losing of presidential elections. So much so, they resort to tactics that any desperate political party implements to maintain/gain power over the people. When the going gets tough, just change the rules …

I wasn’t aware either of our party prima donnas were capable of a modern day innovative thought, unless it was to benefit themselves. I must admit thought, this one is not a bad idea. So far, seven states are suggesting that the “winner takes all” aspect of the Electoral College be eliminated; instead the votes would be divided, based upon the amount of popular votes each candidate received.

The feds can’t stick their noses in this one because each state is empowered to allocate their electoral votes however they please.

Democrats are happy with the status quo, praying to the porcelain god that this is nothing more than election rigging on the part of the GOP. I’ve never been a big fan of the Electoral College, which I see as “true” election rigging. This proposal evens the playing field somewhat and allows emerging parties to possibly gain a foothold in what has been a centuries-long, two-party stranglehold on this nation A nation, by the way, that has been taking a slow nosedive since its inception.

Rest assured, I wouldn’t worry about Idaho joining the likes of Maine and Nebraska, who have passed such legislation. It’ll be a cold day in heck before we’ll share our electoral votes with any other party. So, tell me again, who’s rigging elections?
