Pair of Strikers teams bring home gold

| March 21, 2013 7:00 AM

The Striker U13 girls started off their season with back to back wins to claim the Silver Division Championship at the Cor Van Deer Meer Memorial Tournament in Pasco last weekend. After a bumpy start on Saturday, the girls got things going Sunday morning by defeating the Spokane Scotties 1-0 in overtime and going on to defeat FC Spokane 1-0 in the championship game of the silver division. Throughout the weekend the girls battled strong winds and cold temperatures en route to the championship game.
• Strikers U18 women win Gold with 19 goals
On a cold and gusty weekend in Tri-Cities, the Strikers U18 ladies came off a winter playing futsal in Bonner County’s gymnasiums for their first outing on grass and obliterated the competition.
Playing strong through five matches in just two days, the Sandpoint women found the back of the net an impressive 19 times, only conceding two goals during their run to take home the championship trophy.
With a defensive line anchored by centers Kendra Corless and Alanna Robinson, keepers Makayla Sundquist and Kayla Farrell saw a high level of protection.
Goals were scored by Emma Weme (5), Sierra Scott (4), Nan Kiebert (4), Meghan Parsley (3), Corinne Ariss (2), Kaylee Kiebert (1) and Aislynn Robertson (1).
“Head Coach Adam Tajan and I were both happy with this weekend’s result,” said coach Todd Robinson. “We saw the girls playing some quality possession soccer, building our attack from the back, and controlling the pace of the game. Having this many players able to score is a strong start for us, and will be a good building point for the rest of the season.”
