Bulldogs drop opener

| March 22, 2013 7:00 AM

SPOKANE — It was a tough season opener for the Sandpoint baseball team, which fell 23-2 to West Valley in a five inning game that featured three snowstorms.

The Bulldogs (0-1) haven’t had the chance to take an actual diamond yet, and were working through many of the mistakes that a few outdoor practices would normally cure.

“We have lots to work on once we are able to get outside on a practice field,” said Bulldogs head coach Chris Young. “We will learn from this one and have a short memory.”

Complete stats were unavailable.

Sandpoint hosts Bonners Ferry in the season opener, tentatively scheduled for today, at 4 p.m. at Pine St. Field, weather permitting.

The Sandpoint girls host the Badgers today at 4 p.m. at the new field at Sandpoint High School.

In other local sports, the Sandpoint tennis team travels south to face 4A rival Moscow on Saturday, getting the first look at the players they’ll face to get to state.
