Memories of friend will be treasured
Though we often hear of “the shakers and movers” of Sandpoint and Bonner County on a daily basis, we don’t see the great individuals living their lives behind the scenes creating beauty. Beauty of a life well-lived, beauty of craftsmanship, beauty of heart and soul.
We lost one of our individuals recently in Jeff Detzer. Jeff’s death reminded me of what it’s “really all about.” He was truly a character, spoke his own language, words of singular thought, words of merit. He built his world as many wish they could — cabin, outbuildings, land clearing — all with muscle and an intent to “get back to the land” and take little from it.
His carpentry skills were superb, his heart honest, his word was his gold standard. His woodworking skills will be seen in the houses and personal projects he created around the region for a long time.
The memory of this devoted family man who loved his friends as family, his giving nature and most of all that he walked this earth, left us with beauty and the world no scars is extraordinary. Good-bye friend.
