Bulldog girls fall to Bengals
LEWISTON — Jordan Speelmon and Morgan Bluemer each ripped a double, and Casey Bottomley pitched a seven hitter, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs fell 4-1 to the Bengals in the opening game of a nonleague softball doubleheader on Tuesday at Lewiston High School.
The Bulldogs (0-3) were solid defensively behind Bottomley, who was mixing up her pitches and hitting her spots. The Bulldogs had chances to score more, but couldn’t come up with hits in key spots.
“It was a good, competitive ball game, and fun to watch. We were a couple hits away from winning that game,” said Bulldogs head coach Derek Dickinson. “We played much better defensively than we did against West Valley. That was a big shot Jordan hit.”
Things fell apart in the nightcap, as the Bulldogs committed six errors and allowed two big innings in a 17-2 drubbing. Speelmon, Cody Baldree and Breanna Buchmiller each had a hit in defeat.
“We had a bad third inning and the wheels fell off,” said Dickenson. “Too bad we couldn’t put two in a row together, but the first game is what we’re more capable of.”
