A city in transition, Dover ready for future

The city of Dover continues to grow. It is no wonder people want to live in a place that has a beautiful scene in every direction. Mountains surround the beautiful Pend Oreille River as it wraps itself around this little city before journeying on to the Pacific.

Wildlife, mountain biking trails, hiking trails, all within the city limits. Dover’s city limits stretch from Chuck’s Slough on the east, to milepost 24 on the west. Included are most of Pine Street Loop until the city limits of Sandpoint. Dover is more than an upscale development and marina although those are very much a part of Dover. Open spaces, small farms, older homes on shady streets all form the structures of this city.

Thorne Industries continue to flourish, as do Dover Bay Resort and Marina. The barn that is part of the Dover Bay Development is the location for events from weddings to charity auctions.

The last year has brought about a total change in office staff for the city government. Just this month the office is at full staff after a long hunt to fill the positions of city treasurer/bookkeeper and city clerk.

Now that the office is fully staffed, the city can get back to business just in time for the busy time of summer. Real estate is beginning to grow again and so the staff will be kept busy with building permits and other permits relating to the development of the city.

The SPOT bus continues to amaze us all. We knew there was a need for public transportation, but the reception of SPOT by so many tells us how much of a need there was. SPOT has set records for rider ship steadily since its inception last year. It has been honored by the state for its service. It has the second largest rider ship in the northern district. One of SPOT’s greatest achievements is the bringing together of the four cities: Dover, Sandpoint, Ponderay, and Kootenai. The cooperation has helped the whole area.

In short, Dover is a city in transition, but it is ready to accept the challenges of the future.
