Brooks, Spartans double up on the Bulldogs

| May 1, 2013 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Nik Feyen ripped two doubles, including a 360-foot blast that would have been a home run at most fields, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs lost 6-3 and 14-5 to the Spartans in a nonleague doubleheader on Tuesday at War Memorial Field.

Seniors Feyen, Devin Hancock, Zac Farrell, Justin Puryear and Isaiah Lutz were honored between games on Senior Night, as the Bulldogs (0-16) played their final home games of the season, and first this year under the lights of War Memorial.

Hancock had two steals and Lutz scored twice in game one, and Nate Stangel had two hits and two RBIs, but the Spartans were able to score three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Zac Farrell had a double and a steal in the nightcap, and Jackson Russo, Feyen and Hancock added an RBI as the Bulldogs jumped out early with five runs in the first two innings. Tied at 5-5 in the sixth inning, the Spartans capitalized on a couple of errors to plate seven runs and blow the game open.

Ashton Brooks had a huge game at the plate to lead the Spartans in game two, ripping three doubles and a triple as his team banged out 17 hits.

Sandpoint is at Moscow today in a 4A IEL doubleheader.
