SANDPOINT — Nicolette Jessen and Spencer Temple staged a third set comeback to win at No. 1 mixed doubles, leading Sandpoint to a rock-solid 9-3 win over Lake City in a tennis match on Thursday at Travers Park.

The mixed doubles team trailed 5-2 in the first set before rallying for an 8-6 win the tie-breaker, earning a hard-fought, straight-set win.

“Spencer is getting extremely confident with both his baseline and net game,” said Bulldogs head coach Kent Anderson. “Nicolette is able to anchor the team with her consistently solid cross courts.”

Micah Buchmiller, Alex Hon and Daniel Durfee earned the Bulldogs a sweep in boys singles, with Buchmiller claiming a 10-1 in a tie-breaker played in lieu of a third set.

“Durfee is hitting his backhand with authority now,” said Anderson. “Alex’s power and court speed were the difference. It’s always fun to beat the 5A’s and this was no exception.”

Sandpoint hosts Coeur d’Alene next Tuesday.
