Currie finishes 14th at 4A state golf tourney
MOSCOW — Sandpoint junior David Currie capped a rock-solid season by finishing 14th out of 44 players on Tuesday at the 4A state golf championships at the University of Idaho Golf Course in Moscow.
Currie shot 45-40 for an 85, following a sizzling 77 on Monday, to finish the two-day tournament at 162, or 18 strokes over par. The 77 came amid tough conditions that included high winds and hard, fast greens, and the 85 amid far better conditions, bucking the trend of most of the players.
“One of his goals this year was to get to state,” said Bulldogs head coach Tom Tharp of Currie, who led his team in scoring every round. “He had a little trouble around the greens in the second round. He’s got a lot to be proud of this year.”
Currie will return next year to anchor a boys team that returns everybody, hoping to qualify the entire team to state.
Clark Fork senior Tessa Vogel withdrew from the 1A state golf tournament at Circling Raven on Tuesday after shooting a 142 on Monday to finish 31st out of 40 girls, and fifth from the girls in her district.
“Tess withdrew due to sickness,” said Wampus Cats head coach K.C. MacDonald. “Too bad she couldn’t go, it was a great year for her though.”
