SPD offers unique law enforcement
As a retired CHP officer, my opinion is based on the following traffic stops within the last year.
Teen girls, “looking like they were about to speed.” Unique, prescient and a skill I never learned.
My daughter for an off-center registration tag. The officer admitted it was not a violation.
My wife for registration due to expire in five days.
An adult female followed over five miles, stopped for a broken tail light and arrested for driving under the influence, BA 0.00 and released without an apology.
My grandson, followed for more than a mile, stopped for expired registration and arrested for driving under the influence. Police report states no odor of an alcoholic beverage, no mention of impaired driving and all field sobriety tests passed. After breath test he was released. Outcome: license suspension vacated; DUI charge dismissed.
Three of these could be considered harassment and probably illegal. The least one poor judgment and bad police work.
In situations like this, officers can use their badge or their brain. These Sandpoint officers have badges bigger than their brains. They are an embarrassment to real law enforcement officers.
