Man charged with reckless driving
SANDPOINT — Two vehicle collisions on back-to-back days resulted in the arrest of a Heron, Mont., man for reckless driving.
According to Idaho State Police reports and Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler, David W. Gates, 71, was arrested and taken to Bonner General Hospital Tuesday morning after car accidents on Monday and Tuesday.
Police reports indicate that both car accidents took place at the same intersection and occurred in almost identical configurations.
In both cases, Gates was driving a 1993 Freightliner dump truck. The Monday crash occurred at Dufort Road and U.S. 95 at 1:46 p.m. when Gates, stopped at the Dufort Road stop sign, drove across the highway heading for East Dufort Road.
The maneuver resulted in a collision with a northbound 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Charlotte Skaggs, 73. The report indicates that both the driver and passenger Donald Skaggs, 81, both of Walla Walla, Wash., were injured in the incident, but neither were taken to a hospital.
The second accident took place at the same intersection at 6:11 a.m. Tuesday morning. This time, police said Gates pulled into U.S. 95 heading for East Dufort Road and collided with a Kenworth U.S. Postal Service semi truck driven by Charles Brady, 65.
An investigation into both crashes by Idaho State Police is ongoing.
