Fury, Hislop earn post season lacrosse honors

SANDPOINT — A pair of Sandpoint Club Lacrosse players garnered All-North Idaho Lacrosse League honors this week, as voted on by the league coaches.

Senior Tommy Fury was the Co-Face Off leader in the league stats, and freshman Colin Hislop was the league Saves leader.

Neither player earned a spot on the first team, partly by choice. Each year Sandpoint head coach Matt Schreiber asks his players who he should nominate for the coaches to consider, and for the past two years he’s gotten the same answer.

“Both last year and this year they decided that, because they feel they are a team, they did not want to be nominated for league honors,” explained Schreiber. “There are several honors that are based on statistics rather than votes. These are what Tommy and Colin were recognized for.”

Fury also won the Coach’s Award at the season ending team party, for displaying leadership, sportsmanship, character and dedication. He’s also become arguably the best face-off player in the NILL.

“Despite practicing a good part of our season on pavement where we can’t practice face-offs, he (Fury) has gotten good enough that there is really no one in the league that can beat him,” said Schreiber. “He is a natural leader and a huge part of this program.”

Hislop provides an anchor for the program to build around for the next three years, making his impact felt as a freshman while filling some big shoes left by Riley Hadeen.

“Colin improved at an astonishing rate and wound up with the most saves in the league,” said Schreiber.
