Contor, Crayne, Matlosz ready to make some noise at state
SANDPOINT — Led by a pair of strong relays, the Bulldog swim team will open the state meet with preliminary rounds today in Boise.
Junior captain Madi Contor has a great shot to make the finals, which would mean a top eight finish in the 50 free and 100 fly, a tall task with nearly 50 schools from around the state competing in the meet, which doesn’t have classifications.
Contor will join freshman Kate Matlosz, senior Shanna Crayne and sophomore Cassidy Story in the 200 and 400 free relays, each of which could make some noise. Crayne will also swim in the 100 free and 100 back, and Matlosz in the 200 individual medley and 100 free.
“I would like to see the relays make the finals and Madi has a good chance at making both of her individual events,” said Bulldogs head coach Mike Brosnahan. “Both Shanna and Kate could make the cut if they have season best swims, which is possible because they are rested and ready to swim fast.”
Senior captain Jake Sweezy will lead the boys team, swimming in the 50 free and 100 free, the lone boy to qualify in individual events. Sweezy will also lead senior Clayton York, sophomore Ben Reich and sophomore Kai Whitley in the 200 and 400 free relays.
The state meet kicks off today at the Boise YMCA, with the finals slated for Sunday.
