Charter schools detail school safety policy

| November 3, 2013 6:00 AM

Forrest Bird Charter School has received several parent inquiries regarding the Lake Pend Oreille School District’s discussion on arming school personnel. Here is our response:

“From Forrest Bird Charter Schools to our parent community:

“Over the past six months, our school has met with Bonner County and Sandpoint city law enforcement personnel regarding the development of emergency evacuation response and procedures that are specifically designed for our buildings and location. Additionally, these personnel have met with administration and faculty and provided a standard response protocol that we are implementing in our school buildings. None of these protocols or guidance includes arming school personnel and our administration and board have determined that we do not intend to pursue that option.

“Forrest Bird Charter Schools will follow the best guidance of our local law enforcement and emergency response teams in keeping our students safe.”
