What's the best use of our national resources?

| November 3, 2013 6:00 AM

Congress, the President, and the American people are discussing budget priorities. What is the best use of our limited treasure? Do we continue at the current level of funding for the Pentagon and other departments that participate in military interventions, drone strikes, surveillance, and indefinite detention? Or do we choose to redirect these funds to care for our most vulnerable people, heal the land, and reduce the financial burden we leave our heirs?

We are taught to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Our country is richly blessed with creative, productive, energetic, and generous people. When we nurture them and our land, all can share the grace and promise of this nation. As Sandpoint Friends (Quakers), our faith requires us to work toward a more just and compassionate society, here and abroad. This demands a reordering of U.S. budget priorities now.
