Contor leads Bulldog swimmers at state meet
BOISE — Junior Madi Contor earned a state medal with a sixth place finish in the 50 free, leading the Bulldogs on Saturday during day two of the Idaho State Swimming Championships at the Boise YMCA.
The junior captain clocked a 26.17 in the signature sprint, akin to the 100 meter dash at a track meet, to notch a medalist finish in a field of 32 swimmers from around the state.
Freshman Kate Matlosz posted a strong showing with a 10th place in the 100 free, a solid result in a field of 39 swimmers, each of whom had to qualify for the state meet.
Contor and Matlosz also teamed with senior Shanna Crayne and sophomore Cassidy Story to finish seventh in the 400 free relay, also earning state medals, awarded to the top eight finishers in each event. The four swimmers also finished 11th in the 200 free relay. The Bulldog girls finished 17th out of 29 teams.
The boys team was led by Jacob Sweezy, Clayton York, Ben Reich and Kai Whitley, who teamed up to finish 18th in the 400 free relay and 23rd in the 200 free relay. Sweezy was the lone individual swimmer, finishing 40th in the 50 free and 55th in the 100 free.
