SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint JV football team ended the season on a high note, downing Lakeland 46-12 last Saturday for a season-ending road win.

The Bulldogs also downed Clarkston 33-14 on Monday of last week, capping a torrid stretch where they outscored their opponents 126-26 in the final three games of the season.

The Bulldogs started slow against the Hawks, fumbling the first snap and throwing a pick six interception on the second play, but quickly turned things around.

“Those would be the only two things that didn’t go our way for the rest of the afternoon,” said coach Jacob Peterson.

Receiver Jake Timothy had a strong game against the Hawks, hauling in four catches for 126 yards and three touchdowns. His 76-yard scoring catch from Bear Youngdahl tied the score at 12-12, and helped break the game open. Tyler Presser added 85 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and Youngdahl passed for 94 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bulldogs scored 26 points in a dominating second quarter, as Paul Sundquist threw a 25-yard strike to Jake Timothy for a score and Kyle Perry scored on a 26-yard run.

Kicker Brett Hutchens converted an unusual two point play, picking up a botched snap at the 25-yard line before throwing to Jackson Diercks, who caught the ball in the end zone for a score.

Troy Oliver-Mitton would put the icing on the cake with a scoop and score, the last of five turnovers created by the Bulldogs defense. Colton Engel forced a fumble, Ravyn Smith had an interception, Troy Nutt recovered a fumble and Tyrell Murray recovered two for the Bulldogs. Sundquist, Greg Hostermen and  Hutchens each had tackles for loss.

Against Clarkston, Smith had an interception, Devin LaCroix a sack, and Caiden Oliver broke up two passes with big hits.

The Bulldogs finished 7-2, averaging 31 points a game while giving up just 16.

Offensive linemen Rob Wentz, Tyrell Murray, Isaac Nelson, Alex Feyen and Marcus Rodriguez paved the way for a strong running attack.

Presser led the team in rushing with 724 yards and nine touchdowns, Logan Magro added 400 and six scored, Jake Timothy caught 26 balls for 432 yards and eight scores, and Bear Youngdahl passed for 439 yards and seven scores.

Defensively, safety Caiden Oliver set the tone with some big hits, while linebacker Sundquist brought leadership and playmaking ability.
