No injuries after cyclist, motorist crash

SANDPOINT — No serious injuries were reported after a cyclist and motorist collided with one another at Lincoln Avenue and Pine Street late Thursday afternoon.

Sandpoint Police said the cyclist was riding eastbound on the sidewalk along  Pine Street and the motorist was heading south on Pine when the two collided.

Police Sgt. Derrick Hagstrom said it unclear if the motorist hit the cyclist or vice versa.

“Nobody was cited,” said Hagstrom.

Hagstrom noted that the cyclist was clad in dark clothing and riding without a headlight.

“He didn’t have anything to make himself known,” Hagstrom said.

Hagstrom said the cyclist refused medical attention.

Idaho law requires cyclists riding at night to have a light-emitting device visible from a distance of at least 500 feet to the front. The light must be attached to the rider or the bike. Idaho Code further requires cyclists to have a reflector on the rear of the bicycle that’s clearly visible.

Daylight-saving time concluded on Sunday.

“We’ve got a lot of bicyclists riding at night,” Hagstrom said.
