Contract proposed for BGH nurses

| November 9, 2013 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT — A proposed contract has resulted from mediation between Bonner General Hospital and the union which represents the hospital’s nurses.

“We were able to come to a recommended offer,” Val Holstrom, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local No. 690, said in a message to the Daily Bee.

Holstrom said a union committee is recommending approval of the contract and a vote of nurses is planned for the coming weeks.

“Hopefully, they’ll accept it,” Holstrom said of the proposed contract.

The proposed terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Holstrom could not be reached for comment and did not return phone message on Friday.

The nurses’ contract with the hospital expired in May and they were working under a contract extension since them. Holstrom has said the hospital’s administration and union met more than 20 times since labor negotiations began in June.

A federal mediator was brought in last month and a proposed contract was issued after two days of negotiations.
