SANDPOINT — Let the battle of North American ski towns commence.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort has once again made the sweet sixteen in Powder Magazine’s Ski Town Throwdown. A contest where magazine readers and ski fans rank the continent’s best ski towns through good old-fashioned voting, the throwdown is an ongoing battle at the magazine’s Facebook page — www.facebook.com/powdermag.

On Nov. 14 and Nov. 15, Schweitzer will match up against Kirkwood, Calif., for a shot at the top eight. To vote, simply visit the Facebook page on the day of the match-up and either look for the appropriate post or click on the Ski Town Throwdown app — located on the top bar just under the page’s banner image.

Powder Magazine’s editorial staff selected the original 64 ski resorts based on vertical feet, average snowfall, skiable acreage and lack of crowds. From there, the candidates go mano-a-mano until a winner is decided in early December.

Last year, Sandpoint performed admirably, making it to the final four before losing to sister city Nelson, British Columbia. This year, however, Whitewater Ski Resort was knocked out in the second round of voting, leaving the field wide open for a new champion. However, the only way to help Schweitzer rise to the top is to hit the Facebook page and vote.
