Handful of Top Dogs claim wrestling titles
SANDPOINT — The Top Dogs have been rolling recently during three North Idaho tournaments. They will end the season by hosting the Panhandle Championships starting Saturday morning at Sandpoint Middle School, with nearly 500 kids expected to compete.
Top Dogs Wyatt Kayser, Brayden Sparks, Shane Sherrill and Jorden Tyler claimed first place medals as 21 of 32 Top Dogs earned top four finishes in the first tournament of the season in Bonners Ferry.
Earning second place honors were Greysen Johnson, Dalton Williams, Jacob Howell, Blake Sherrill, Tyssen Case, Luke Stebbins and Gregory Belgarde. Finishing third was Seth Barba, Dylan Nalley, Tyson Hodges, Matthew Clifton and Cameron Barrett, while Gavin Clifton, Shawn Russell and Zac Kohal each finished fourth.
Despite a smaller crew in Kellogg in the next meet, the Top Dogs still sent a 15 of its 23 competitors to the podium, led by Drew Polatis, the lone champion.
Finishing second were Tyson Hodges, Shane Sherrill, Medina Lopez, Shawn Russell, Blake Sherrill and Louie Macumber, third place finishes included Nolan Randles, Tyssen Case, Canyon Nash, Jorden Tyler and Mathew Clifton, and Gregory Belgarde, Dylan Nalley and Cameron Barrett each finished fourth in Kellogg.
At the season’s most recent tournament, Top Dog sent 18 of its 30 competitors to the podium in another strong showing. Shane Sherrill claimed the lone championship.
In second were Dalton Williams, Bryson Tucker, Blake Sherrill and Louie Macumber, finishing third was Antonio Lopez, Canyon Nash, Shawn Russell, Tyssen Case, Craig Sigman and Nolan Randles, and earning fourth place medals were Jacob Howell, Tyson Hodges, Jorden Tyler, Matthew Clifton, Dylan Nalley, Seth Barba and Brock Kluver.
The final event of the North Idaho Wrestling League season is Saturday at Sandpoint Middle School, as the next generation of Bulldogs will be in action.
