Recall over gun debate doesn't make sense

| November 14, 2013 6:00 AM

Regarding the debate over the issue of guns in schools: This is how it should be. When a new idea is presented, it should be discussed, checked into, open for public discussion, surveyed by those closest to the issue and more. This is why we elect representatives; to bring forth this process.

Chairman Steve Youngdahl has the best interest of the students and staff of Lake Pend Oreille School District in mind. This is why the issue of protecting our schools was presented. We are now seeing the ignorance of those in our community who don’t agree. By putting forth a recall on Steve Youngdahl, for doing his job, is crazy.

Mindy Cameron doesn’t agree we should have guns in schools, so does this mean I should start a recall against her? She doesn’t agree with my way of thinking; so maybe I should. Wrong. If you don’t agree with your representation then attend school board meetings, write letters and work to elect someone new.

For those of you who signed the recall petition, do you realize that if this recall were to go to a vote, this would be funded by the taxpayers of Bonner County? Do you realize that whether you prevail or not that this will cost about $15,000. Come on Bonner County, this is not a wrongdoing, just an option, so let’s stop reacting and start trying to do what is best for our community. We are not immune to violence so this discussion is just.
