Contor, Matlosz earn spots on district swim team

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint junior Madi Contor and freshman Kate Matlosz each earned spots on the girls 2013 All-North Idaho District swim team, as voted on recently by the league’s coaches.

Swimmers are ranked according to season best times in all events and by finishes at the state and district championships, and the Sandpoint pair were each named alternates.

Bulldogs head coach Mike Brosnahan said both swimmers are versatile and fast in many events, and helped anchor the team all season. Both will return next year, joining an influx of fast newcomers, as the Bulldog girls look to return to state prominence.

Brosnahan on the strengths of each swimmer:

• Madi Contor: “She’s consistently fast. When someone is right beside her, she almost always beats them to the finish. I can put her in anything, and if it’s a close race, Madi usually ends up on top.”

• Kate Matlosz: “It’s nice knowing she can swim a variety of different events. It’s nice to count on a freshman to get points and swim that well. Good energy, she gets fired up about swimming and likes to swim fast.”
