Local pair enhance mediation skills

| November 15, 2013 6:00 AM

Cindy Hunter, of Evergreen Realty, and Forrest Schuck, of Century 21 Riverstone, recently took part in mediation training sponsored by the National Association of Realtors.

The National Association has sponsored and conducted this seminar at least once a year since 2000 and the program is overwhelmingly well received by all who attend. The seminar was led by Northwestern University Law School’s Lynn Cohn, Duke University Law School’s René Stemple Ellis, and NAR Educator of the Year and 2012 Distinguished Service Award recipient, Bruce Aydt.

The extensive two-and-a-half-day learning experience was designed to enhance and refine existing mediation skills, which Hunter and Schuck both belong to the Professional Standards Committee. The seminar features a full day of three-person mediation simulations guided by individual mediation coaches. The instructional and comprehensive support materials enable participants to serve as mediators for their state and local associations and to share the techniques, skills, and expertise they gain with others. The training efforts, coupled with the willingness of those who attend will, enable the organization to effectively embrace and provide mediation as a valuable additional dispute resolution tool.

Of the 50 participants, four individuals from west of the Rocky Mountains took part with Hunter and Schuck representing the smallest association of those present.

Selkirk Association of Realtors would like to congratulate and thank both for their service to the organization, said Stephanie Rief, SARS association executive.
