Bulldogs fall short against Vikings
SANDPOINT — Three Sandpoint players scored in double figures, but a tough third quarter proved too much to overcome, as the Bulldogs fell 59-46 to the perennial 5A state power Vikings in nonleague girls hoops at Coeur d’Alene High School.
The much improved Bulldogs (1-3) were led by Madi Schoening with 11 points, and Hailey Olin and Maryah Delgado with 10 apiece, as eight different Bulldogs scored.
The 13 point deficit was closer than the Bulldogs have played the Vikings in years, and except for being outscored 14-3 in a pivotal third quarter, the game was mostly even.
Sydni Parker had 10 points, five steals, five assists and four rebounds to lead the Vikings (3-0), who figure to contend for a 5A state title. The Bulldogs’ play caught the attention of the Vikings coach.
“Sandpoint does some good things and got some points. Schoening and Olin shoot the ball really well and went to the foul line way too many times,” Coeur d’Alene coach Dale Poffenroth said. “He’s (Bulldog head coach Bill Bender) got good kids. When you get scoring out of eight kids and the way we played the first half, it happens. We had a good defensive third quarter.”
The Bulldogs will travel to Priest River on Dec. 3.
