| November 29, 2013 6:00 AM

ELMIRA — A Bonner County teen was killed Wednesday after the sport utility vehicle she was driving was hit by a northbound BNSF Railway train.

Idaho State Police said Kayle Porter, 19, was northbound on U.S. Highway 95 and entered the turn lane to head east on Elmira Road. After turning onto the road, she failed to stop at an uncontrolled at-grade railroad crossing, state police said.

The northbound locomotive struck the BMW X5 Porter was driving, pushing in north down the tracks. The crash happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. on the east side of U.S. 95.

Bonner County Sheriff’s deputies, Northside Fire District firefighters, Bonner County EMS responders and BNSF Railway personnel assisted at the scene of the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, state police said.
