PRIEST RIVER — An Oldtown man was killed Saturday after he drove left of the center line and off the left shoulder of Highway 2.

Jerry A. Slinger, 60, was westbound near milepost 2.4 when his 1978 Chevy Silverado pickup traveled over the center line at 2:22 p.m. The vehicle traveled down an embankment at the Albeni Falls Dam visitor center, striking the tree with the left front part of the truck, according to an Idaho State Police press release.

The vehicle then spun around and hit another tree before stopping.

Slinger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Idaho State Police, Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, Priest River Police Department, West Pend Oreille Fire Department, Bonner County EMS, and Newport Ambulance all responded to the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
