SANDPOINT — Sandpoint will be looking for a boys and girls sweep and automatic team berths to state on Thursday at the 4A Region 1 cross country championships at Phillips Farm County Park in Moscow.

The boys team will be led by senior Sam Levora, winner of numerous races this season and one of the two favorites to compete for the 4A state title. He’ll be joined by Sam Powell, Jacob Graham, Matt Cloud, Chris Cordova, Alan Orr and Adam Bourn.

Junior Mikhaela Woodward will lead the girls team, which like the boys, have a good shot to take down Lakeland and Moscow. Joining Woodward are Sydney Foster, Rainey Woodward, Corrine McClelland, Bree Jones, Claire Pierce and Lauren Orr.

The Bulldogs have already run a race on the course, which head coach Matt Brass described at hilly and technical, which suits his team’s strength.

“We ran it one already and are looking forward to it. We have done very well on hilly courses this season,” said Brass, who likes his team’s chances in both races. “The girls match up well with Moscow and it will be a close, tough race. The boys have a few strides on Lakeland and Moscow, but it will be close for both.”

The racing action starts at 11:30 a.m. The course is located five miles north of Moscow.
