Homemade touch wins Miller's Country Store plenty of fans

SANDPOINT — There’s nothing quite like the homemade touch, as fans of Miller’s County Store will tell you.

Located at 1326 Baldy Mountain Road, the shop has earned a reputation for high quality deli items, bulk foods, baked goods and more since it opened almost three years ago. Thanks to a strong response from local residents, the store is expanding, offering customers more space and shopping options.

Business owners are celebrating the expansion with some special events today and Friday. For one thing, the store will be open an hour later than its standard 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday hours of operation. Customers can also grab some free samples, land some discounts and participate in raffles for gift baskets and other prizes.

It’s a great time to drop by and check out the store’s new, spacious arrangement. Business owner Rod Miller relocated the moving trucks for his handyman business, devoting the entire building to the country store with a few renovations. That gives customers more room to find their items and also establishes a spot to sit and eat.

The store’s expanded inventory might also be a surprise if it’s been a while since you’ve visited. The deli now features new meats and cheeses, and gluten-free bread is a regular item. If you need a quick meal to pop in the oven for later, the store offers take-and-bake options like lasagna, beef stroganoff, chicken noodle casserole and more. As with the country store bakery and deli, quality is the name of the game with its homemade items.

“Some of these recipes have been in the family for years,” Miller said.

According to Miller, he’s been extremely happy with the customer base Miller’s Country Store has generated over three years. One unexpected benefit has been its location. While northwest Sandpoint isn’t a popular location to open a business, it’s also an under-served area. It’s a common spot of town for homes and professional offices, and Litehouse’s nearby production facility makes the country store a popular lunch location for employees.

“We’ve had many people come up to us and ask us not to relocate,” Miller said.
