No injuries in rollover accident
COCOLALLA — No injuries were reported after a sport utility vehicle overturned and landed in a marshy area on the east side of U.S. Highway 95 on Monday morning, according to Idaho State Police.
State police said Sage Dixon was southbound when he attempted to overtake another motorist in the Cocolalla Flats passing zone and lost control of his SUV on the snow-covered roadway. Dixon’s Ford Excursion went into a broadside slide across the northbound lanes, left the roadway and overturned onto its roof.
Dixon, 44, and his six passengers, all of whom were wearing seat belts, escaped injury, according to ISP. Also in the vehicle were Veronica Dixon, 45; Aidan Dixon, 16; Abigail Dixon, 15; Andra Dixon, 13; Asher Dixon, 12; and Alanna Dixon, also 12.
Sage Dixon was appointed to serve on the Bonner County Property Rights Council and sought the Republican nomination for county commissioner for District 1 in the 2012 primary election.
The crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. and blocked the highway. Two-way traffic was restored shortly after 9 a.m., according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.
The slick stretch of highway also reportedly spawned a second crash. A sheriff’s deputy responding to the scene collided with another vehicle, which crashed into a Bonner County EMS ambulance operated by the Sagle Fire District.
There were no injuries reported following the second collision.
Sagle Fire Chief Robert Webber said two firefighters aboard the ambulance evaluated at Bonner General Hospital and later released.
