Wampus Cats wrap up 2013 cross country season

CLARK FORK — Clark Fork’s Megan Frazier clocked a 25:20 to finish 14th out of 39 female runners at the recent 2A/1A, District 1-2 cross country championships at Lion’s Park in Grangeville.

Unfortunately, only the top 13 runner qualified for state, so for the first time in her high school career, Frazier won’t be running at state.

“She struggled all season with a knee injury and just couldn’t quite push through,” said Wampus Cats head coach Megan Frazier, who took a team of five runners to districts. “We were a little bummed, no one qualified this year, but that’s how it goes. There’s a ton of amazing talent out there.”

Rebecca Dohmen, an exchange student from Germany, finished 16th in 25:40 to round out the Wampus Cat girls.

Geoff Boudousquie finished 27th in the boys race with a time of 21:29, Nyk Jones (22:09) and Jacob Edstrom (24:54) rounded out the Wampus Cat boys in a field of 51 runners, most from bigger schools than Clark Fork.

Even though her team didn’t advance a runner to state for the first time ever, Frazier was immensely proud of her runners, calling them a vivacious group.

“You cannot run far in Clark Fork before encountering hill. It’s a tough sell to dedicate so much time and effort to running, and it certainly isn’t for the weak,” said Frazier, who started the program three years ago. “We didn’t make it to state this year, but we’ll be back.”
