Bowen, Nesbitt power Wampus Cats past Tigers
MULLAN — The one-two punch of senior quarterback Zach Nesbitt and junior running back Brandan Bowen accounted for five touchdowns, propelling the Wampus Cats to a convincing 48-12 win over Mullan in North Star League football Friday afternoon in Mullan.
Bowen scored on touchdown runs of 60 and 55 yards, and also hauled in a 15 yard strike from Nesbitt, as the Wampus Cats (1-1, 1-0 NSL) 42 unanswered points during a dominating stretch.
Nesbitt connected with receiver Wyatt Deabenderfer for a 55 yard score to put the Cats on the board, and Jaden Taylor finished things off with a five yard rushing touchdown.
The Cats defense continues to be a strength of the team, allowing just 26 points in the first two games, downright stingy by eight man football standards.
“The guys are playing physical and aggressive and tackling really well,” said Cats head coach Brian Arthun. “The defensive line is really standing out. Wyatt (Stevens) and John (Regalia) are creating havoc in the backfield.”
Mullan senior quarterback Wyatt Sadler accounted for all of Mullan’s points, rushing for two touchdowns to put the Tigers on the board during their Homecoming game.
