Obama's tactics may be effective

| September 15, 2013 7:00 AM

It’s looking like President Obama’s threat of a missile strike against Syria may work out after all. The Assad government has Indicated to Russia they would turn over their chemical weapons to an international body or allow them to be destroyed.

Much negotiating remains before this could happen, but for It to succeed, Congress needs to authorize Obama’s plan for a punitive strike against Syria, in event it should fail.

The use of chemical weapons in Syria has been well documented, and constitutes a crime against humanity,

As usual, politics has reared its ugly head and there are some — who opposed Obama’s re-election — who want to see him fail.

These include members of Congress who voted to authorize President Bush’s ill-advised decision to invade Iraq.

The majority of Americans still see our president as a strong and decisive leader. I believe his approach is in step with President Theodore Roosevelt’s foreign policy of “Speak softly and carry a big stick.”
