Habitat for Humanity ReStore sets grand reopening
SANDPOINT — There are many great non-profits in the Sandpoint area. Some make a small difference in many lives, others make a larger difference.
Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity makes a huge difference in the lives of our families. Some lived in sub-standard housing. Some lived in cars. None owned their homes and without Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity it is unlikely they ever would. Today they are owners of new, decent, affordable homes that were funded by Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity and built by volunteers. The families contributed 300-500 hours of labor and committed to paying back the cost of their home with a no-interest mortgage.
Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity opened its ReStore in 2008 to help raise funds for the homes built in the area. The ReStore sells donated furniture, appliances, plumbing and electrical fixtures, doors, windows, and other building materials. The ReStore created two jobs in Sandpoint, reduced the amount of waste going to landfills, and provided a source of less expensive products for families who are building or remodeling their homes.
In 2012, Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity purchased two buildings on Baldy Park Road. In 2013, the chapter moved the ReStore to those buildings and, with the help of several local businesses and individuals, joined the buildings together to improve customers’ shopping experience.
To celebrate the move and the new location, Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity will hold a grand reopening ceremony from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Stop by the new location, 1519 Baldy Park Road, between Miller’s Country Store and Coleman Oil on Baldy Mountain Road.
There will be free food, a drawing for $250 in store merchandise ($25 purchase necessary to enter), and a clearance sale on selected summer inventory.
