Weme boots hat trick as Bulldogs blank Hawks
SANDPOINT — Emma Weme keyed a one-sided first half with a hat trick of goals, propelling the Bulldog girls to a 4-0 win over the Hawks in 4A Inland Empire League soccer on Tuesday under the lights of War Memorial Field.
Weme got the Bulldogs (2-3-1, 1-0 4A IEL) on the board in the 20th minute, taking a loose ball in front of the net after a corner kick and punching it past the keeper. Sierra Scott finished a pass from Kaylee Kiebert for the second goal, before Weme added two more in the final three minutes of a clean and decisive first half.
“Emma is very excited about her senior year and playing at Memorial,” said Bulldogs head coach Conor Baranski. “Both of her (last two) goals were very determined.”
Corrine Ariss returned to anchor the defense, patrolling the middle and shutting down the Lakeland runs. Makayla Sundquist posted her second shutout of the season, as the second half was played under a light, but steady rain.
“The shutout was nice,” said Baranski, “but we still have a lot to work on.”
Angelique Wetherelt was busy in goal for the Hawks (1-5, 0-1 4A IEL), stopping 12 shots as the Bulldogs created plenty of offensive chances.
