Companies only care about stockholders
Ms. Oakes’ column (Sept. 3, Daily Bee) is concise, revelatory, extremely well written and statistically accurate.
The pace of modern life has lured Americans into “fast food” and frantic unhealthy behavior where admonitions such as hers are unacknowledged and ignored. One such franchise attempted a list of low-calorie, healthy food and soon gave up because it wasn’t selling.
The pressures of modern living are enormous, in many cases requiring three-hour commutes in heavy traffic, caused mainly by a lack of public transportation.
This problem and the one listed above are intricately interconnected.
For-profit health insurance will not easily give way; its goal is not to make folks healthy, its goal is to make its stockholders rich.
