Bulldog boys tie Vikings 1-1

| September 27, 2013 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint was once again plagued by a slow start, scoring late to earn a 1-1 draw with Coeur d’Alene in nonleague boys soccer on Thursday at Pine St. Field.

Gunnar Skindlov capitalized on a call in the penalty box to nail a penalty kick, staking the Vikings (5-1-3) to a 1-0 lead early in the game.

The two teams went scoreless for the next 60 plus minutes, before Jeremiah Gagnon finished a slick pass from Joab Logan for the equalizer, Gagnon’s team-leading ninth goal of the season.

“Joab beat his defender far left and sent in a cross that Jeremiah was there to finish,” said Bulldogs head coach Adam Tajan. “It was a little bit back and forth, with a lot of the game played in the middle of the field. Chances were few and far between.”

Sandpoint is at Post Falls on Saturday, where Tajan is hoping his team will kick it into gear early against the 5A state champs after two sluggish starts.
