Where is government of and for the people?

There is a pattern developing that is becoming very troubling for the politics of this country.
In the early days of the United States, corporations were entities chartered and designed for public benefit such as construction of roads and canals. They were intended to be artificial and invisible financial tools. They had limited life, were subject to charter revocation for misdeeds and did not limit the liability of their owners, nor that of their managers. In 1832, Pennsylvania revoked the charters of 10 banks for failure to operate in the public interest.
