Timberwolves tame Bulldogs in twin doubleheaders

| April 9, 2014 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Dominic Conigliaro had a strong day at the mound and at the plate for Lake City, tossing a two-hitter and smacking five hits and scoring five runs to lead the Timberwolves to a 12-1 and 8-4 sweep of Sandpoint in nonleague baseball on Tuesday at sun-soaked War Memorial Field.

Conigliaro struck out eight in the opener for Lake City (6-4), which had five players post multiple hits while scoring in all but the first frame.

Tyler Newton and Quinn Pearlstein had the only hits in defeat for Sandpoint (1-7).

Chase Rodriguez started sharp in the nightcap, striking out five while holding Lake City scoreless into the fourth inning, but the Bulldogs couldn’t muster any offense of their own. Jackson Russo and Caiden Oliver each had a hit, and the Bulldogs plated four runs in the sixth to keep things close.

Sandpoint hosts Lakeland in a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader opener on Saturday, with first pitch slated for noon.
