Durfee, Temple lead SHS to 6-6 tie with Lewiston
POST FALLS — After falling 10-2 in the first dual between arguably the two top tennis teams in North Idaho, Sandpoint closed the gap considerably against Lewiston, playing to a 6-6 tie in a tennis dual on Tuesday at Post Falls High School.
Daniel Durfee remained undefeated on the season, posting an 8-1 win at No. 3 boys singles, and Spencer Temple was sharp in an 8-3 pro set win at No. 2 singles.
“Spencer played the best match of his life. His serves were sharp and his ground strokes powerful and deep,” described Bulldogs head coach Kent Anderson. “Daniel dominated with a combo of court quickness and a powerful attacking forehand.”
Broc Storro and Patrick Rockwell won 8-3 at No. 2 boys doubles, remaining unbeaten on the season, and even though she lost, Cassidy Story earned her coach’s respect in defeat at No. 2 girls singles.
“Broc and Patrcik kept their string alive with a massive win against a tough Lewiston team. They move so well together and love to terminate whenever they’re given the opportunity,” said Anderson. “Cassidy lost her first match today but it was the best she’s ever hit. Fantastic racket head speed and shockingly sharp angles.”
Sandpoint was leading 5A Post Falls 7-1 when a host of matches were called due to darkness. Kennedy Search, Laney Search and Cassidy Story earned a sweep in girls singles.
Sandpoint is at Lake City on Tuesday.
