Ancient rite finds new groove in dance class

SANDPOINT — Drums and hand percussion lay down a groove as steady as the heartbeat of Mother Earth, while a didgeridoo sweeps around it all in a low-frequency ebb and flow as powerful as the breath of life.

The music is both feminine and muscular. Its rhythms evoke something ancient and true, as though some dormant tribal memory has just been reignited. Try as you might, once the beat takes hold, there is nothing for it but to move.
