Bulldogs blank Hawks in rain-shortened tennis dual
SANDPOINT — Micah Buckmiller beat Mason Upton 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 boys singles, leading Sandpoint to a 5-0, rain-shortened win over Lakeland in a 4A Inland Empire League tennis dual on Monday at Travers Park and Lakeview Park.
Buckmiller had a strong return game, and was hitting a lot of clean winners.
“Mason has a big serve, Micah was just playing with confidence,” described Bulldogs head coach Kent Anderson of his big-hitting senior. “When you play with confidence, you can put the ball where you want.”
Senior Jared Presnell skipped the SHS golf meet at Twin Lakes to play varsity singles for the first time, and after falling 6-2 in the first set to Colin Burkhalter, the match was called by rain at 2-2 in the second set.
Broc Storro and Patrick Rockwell have been a strong No. 2 doubles team all year, and cruised to a straight set win, and Cia Hanford led 6-0, 5-0 when the rains came.
The weather is set to turn nice just in time for the Bulldogs to tune up for districts during a busy week of action. Sandpoint hosts Lake City on Wednesday in a dual that figures to be very close, then travels to Spokane on Friday for the two-day Inland Empire Classic, which draws teams from all over the Inland Northwest.
