SANDPOINT — To cover the cost of rising insurance premiums, council members are considering giving elected officials a raise due for January 2016.

One of the many issues due for council discussion 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, the proposed raise would boost council pay from $275 to $400 per month. In addition, the mayor’s salary would increase from $1,000 to $1,200 per month. The increase would not go into effect until the next round of city elections, scheduling the change for a January 2016 timetable.

Council members initially approved the compensation increase during a budget discussion on July 23. Wednesday’s decision will approve the ordinance required to put the raises into effect.
