Bonner County budget covers the bases

Most, if not all, articles about budgets are boring! This one is no exception. For those of you nodding off already, here is the bottom line. The Board proposed a 2.66-percent increase in property tax revenues which account for almost 40 percent of the overall county budget.

This increase, less than authorized by state statute, will provide you with the essential services relating to public safety such as law enforcement, emergency medical services, 911, detention facilities, emergency management and the court system. In addition, much of the county infrastructure needs immediate attention. This includes not only our roads, but also our technology infrastructure and facilities.

Lastly, we want to halt the declining purchasing power of employee wages by ensuring that all county employees received at least a $0.50 per hour pay raise.
