More training needed to prevent tragedies

In response to the letter from Lee Kirkwood, I offer a different view of the recent Sandpoint Police shooting.
Mr. Kirkwood opines that the female suspect should have obeyed the police commands and that she was not being rational. I think we can all agree that her actions were unjustified. I would say that if a person armed with a knife refuses to obey an armed police officer, he or she is mentally off or possibly has a death wish. But does that justify shooting and killing that person?
