Timberwolves notch win over Bulldogs

| August 29, 2014 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Sophomore Dawson Mulder scored his first varsity goal to stake Sandpoint to an early lead, but it was all Lake City from there, as the Timberwolves rolled to a 3-1 win over the Bulldogs in nonleague boys soccer Thursday at Pine St. Field.

Lake City (1-0) got goals from Kade Murphree, Shea Hannigan Luther and Ryan Swallow, while Jared Stone picked up the shutout in the team’s season opener.

“It’s the first game, so we’re trying to keep it in perspective,” said Lake City coach Chad Beadell. “We had tons of opportunities and some great crosses; we were dangerous. I thought we played very well, and got the first game jitters out.”

The Bulldogs, already young and inexperienced, are still missing four starters, and spent a large part of the day chasing, registering just two shots on goal. It will be a season of steady improvement for the Bulldogs (0-2), as Adam Tajan looks to mold his young squad.

“We showed some improvement from the first game,” said Tajan. “We still have a lot of guys watching that could help our offense.”
