New BCEMS hire steeped in experience

| December 2, 2014 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Benjamin Dowdy has been hired as a full-time paramedic for Bonner County Emergency Medical Services, Chief Bob Bussey has announced.

Dowdy, who joined Bonner EMS as a part-time employee in June, received his paramedic certification from Eastern Kentucky University in 2007. He earned a bachelor’s degree in emergency medical and EMS administration from EKU in 2009.

A rescue experience in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge sparked Dowdy’s interest in wilderness medicine. In addition to working full-time as a paramedic, Dowdy became an instructor for Wilderness Medical Associates, was active in search and rescue in the Red River Gorge area and worked as a tactical medic for a local  law enforcement agency.
